  • PRESS RELEASE

The Extra "Mega Sale," which ended recently, pulled in more than 1.9 million visitors over five days, making it once again the largest consumer electronics and home appliances event in the Middle East. Now in its eighth year, the "Mega Sale" saw a huge number of visits in-store as well as on its website.

Across the company's 29 stores, the five-day "Mega Sale" saw discounts of up to 50% on leading brands such as Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, Vestel, Apple and Nokia as well as other leading brands. One of the highlights of this year's sale was the exclusive Saudi Arabia launch of the sleek new Sony PlayStation 3 model.

"This year's 'Mega Sale' proved once again to be the biggest consumer electronics event in the Middle East," said Mohammad Galal, Chief Executive Officer, United Electronics Company (Extra).

"The event began with more incredible offers on leading consumer electronic and home appliance products. We thank our millions of customers in the Kingdom for helping to ensure that this year's 'Mega Sale' lived up to its name yet again. Logistically speaking, it takes 12 months to prepare for the Mega Sale and this is not an event any retailer can offer. We have worked with our suppliers over the last 2 weeks on a 24 hour basis to ensure delivery to our warehouses and to ensure that stocks are available."

Galal added: "Our sales increased 50% over the previous year with more than 800,000 items sold over the 5 day event translating to almost 10,000 items per hour."

In 2012, the Extra "Mega Sale" attracted more than ten times as many visitors as the 2011 GITEX Technology Week in Dubai, making it the largest consumer electronics and home appliances event in the Middle East.
