FANR inspecting Korean reactors' parts

  • United Arab Emirates: Saturday, November 17 - 2012 at 00:37

The UAE's Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) has dispatched an inspection team to South Korea to check and monitor nuclear reactors, following a series of nuclear incidents, including one related to the use of uncertified parts, Korea Times has reported. The South Korean government is currently investigating manufacturers of parts supplied to nuclear reactors in the country for nearly a decade using forged quality certificates. A nuclear power plant housing four reactors is under construction in the UAE by the state-run Korea Electric Power Corp (KEPCO), which is at the centre of the incidents. "The FANR has been closely tracking developments in Korea since the news broke. It currently has an inspection team in Korea that is conducting a planned quality inspection," said FANR spokeswoman, Fatema Al Ansari. "They (inspectors) have been able to question KEPCO and gather preliminary information on the issue."
