Federal Reserve says stimulus has no effect on emerging markets
- USA: Monday, October 15 - 2012 at 01:32
Ben Bernanke, the chairman of the US Federal Reserve, has refuted arguments that the US central bank's record stimulus is causing destabilising flows of capital to emerging-market economies, Bloomberg has reported. "It is not at all clear that accommodative policies in advanced economies impose net costs on emerging market economies," Bernanke said in a seminar in Tokyo on the last day of International Monetary Fund annual meetings. Recent research, including studies by the IMF, "does not support the view that advanced-economy monetary policies are the dominant factor behind emerging market capital flows," he noted.
