The Nasr City Housing and Construction Company was established in 1959. It was a wholly owned subsidiary of public Holding Company for building and construction until April 1996, when 70 percent of Nasr's shares were sold to the private sector in an IPO priced at 65 Egyptian Pounds a share.

The government divested its 25% stake in the company as part of reforms set forth in 2004.
