Alexandria Mineral Oils Company (AMOC) was founded in 1997 by Egypt's ministry of petroleum with the primary objective of catering to the local market's petroleum products demand with any excess production exported.

The refining firm operates a gas oil complex and a lube oil complex. The firms products are LPG, naphtha, gas oil, fuel oil blend, waxes, transformer oils (OT), automatic transmission fluids (ATF), and base oils.

The firm's lube oil complex opened during July 2002 with a capacity of 239,000 tons per year and its gas oil complex opened in April 2004 with a capacity of 601,000 tons. AMOC's primary supplier and customer is Egyptian General Petroleum Company (EGPC) which supplies it with most of its fuel oil needs and purchases most of its products especially with gas oil, naphtha and LPG.

Both of its purchases and sales with EGPC are conducted based on international prices. The firm operates one of the newest and most technologically advanced facilities among Egypt's refining sector.
