Profile and Background
Established in 1989 with a paid-up capital of JD5 million ($7.1 million) Universal Modern Industries Company for Vegetable Oil (UMIC) refines and bottles edible oils. Its Principle products are: soft oils corn, soya bean and sunflower oils, margarine, ghee, and shortening and palm kernel.
UMIC's export markets include Iraq, Lebanon and Syria. Goods sold abroad account for between 30-40 percent of total revenues. The company faces competition locally, especially ghee and sunflower oil products.
