Kuwait Reinsurance Company obtained a license to conduct reinsurance business in Kuwait and was initially formed by 11 Kuwaiti banks and insurance firms, the company admitted foreign capital in December 2002 when New York-based Transatlantic Holdings became a strategic partner with a 40% stake.

In March 2004, a private placement of 15 mn shares took place in anticipation of a formal listing on the Kuwait Stock Exchange. The company was listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange on June 28, 2004.
