Profile and Background
In 1996, it recorded sales of RO 1.9 million ($4.9 million) but costs associated with breaking into the market resulted in a net loss of nearly RO 400,000 ($1 million). In 1997, turnover increased by 47 per cent, but the company was still unable to break even.
Turnover grew the following year by a further 32 per cent and net losses were reduced substantially despite higher sales and distribution expenses and increased borrowing costs. Figures for 1999 show that the company finally broke into surplus, reporting a net profit of more than RO 100,000 ($263,000).
This allowed the company to reduce the carried over deficit on the profit and loss statement. The share price fell in 1999, but recovered in the first part of 2000.
