Al-Amal Industries Company was established in 1987 to manufacture diapers and sanitary towels. It is the leading producer locally and also exports to markets including South Africa, Malaysia and India.

A drop in sales in 1996 led to the company posting a loss. However, successful cost-cutting measures resulted in a net profit of RO 199,863 ($519,125) in 1997. Profitability deteriorated in 1998, with net profits falling 60 per cent to RO 78,974 ($205,128) on a 10 per cent decline in sales to RO 2.

3 million ($6 million) and a 61 per cent drop in other income.Al-Amal's major shareholders are Omar Bin Abdul Moniem al-Zawawi and Mohamed al-Zubair. The company was delisted during the second half of 2003.
