Profile and Background
Al-Anwar Ceramic Tiles Company was established at the beginning of 1997 by a group of 11 Omani investors led by AI-Anwar Industrial & Trading Company with 20 per cent, Oman & Emirates Investment Holding Company with 13.
3 per cent and Al-Ahlia Portfolio Securities Company with 6.2 per cent. Other founders include the Oryx joint Investment Account with 5 per cent and National Aluminum Products Company (Napco) with 3 per cent.
The company began trial production of glazed ceramic wall and floor tiles at its plant in Nizwa in April 1998 and started commercial production in January 1999. The shale, silica sand and limestone used in the production of the tiles are sourced within a 200-kilometre radius of the factory.
The company has yet to report a full year of operations. In 1999, it recorded a loss of RO 1.2 million ($3.1 million).
