BP Oman was established by The British Petroleum Company (BP) as a 49:51 joint venture with the local Dhofar International Development & Investment Holding Company. The company was listed on the MSM in September 1998 following an initial public offering (IPO) of 40 per cent of the capital.

BP retains a 49 per cent stake. The company distributes and retails refined products. In September 2003, the company changed its name to Oman Oil Marketing Company, as a result of transferring a 51% ownership stake to Oman Oil Company- the new parent entity.
