Cement & Gypsum Products Company, established at the beginning of 1998 following the flotation of 40 per cent of its shares at the end of 1997, is the first manufacturing project to be set up under the Omani and UK governments' offset programme.

It will manufacture hollow core wall panels and flooring which facilitate cooling and air-conditioning. The UK's Techbuild 2000, the largest shareholder with a 20 per cent stake, provides technical assistance.

The UK's Ingold Investments has a 5 per cent stake. The largest Omani shareholders are WJ Towell & Company and Shaikh Saud Ali al-Khalili, the former Education Minister, each with 10 per cent.
