Profile and Background
Dhofar Beverages Company was established in 1978 and is engaged in the production of carbonated and still soft drinks. Turnover has generally improved every year but dropped in 1997 and 1998, mainly due to growing competition.
Profits more than tripled in 1997 thanks to the strong performance of the company's investment portfolio. In the following year, however, the poor performance of the MSM led to a 96 per cent decline in non-operating income and an 86 per cent fall in net profit to RO 80,565 ($209,260).
The company has maintained a policy of distributing cash dividends equivalent to 20-25 per cent of paid-in capital, and in 1997 it also distributed a 25 per cent stock dividend. Its shares were listed on the MSM in May 1989.
The company had yet to release results for 1999 when this guide was being researched.
