Packaging Company was established in 1986 and manufactures corrugated carton and related products. Earnings fell every year between 1993-96, but staged a substantial recovery in 1997 due to successful cost-cutting measures.

Gross profits rose 21 per cent despite stagnant sales and net profits jumped by 85 per cent, allowing the company to return to paying out dividends. In 1998, however, sales costs once again rose, and bottom line earnings declined by 36 per cent, despite a slight increase in sales income and a more than two-fold increase in non-operating income.

The company's shares, of which Al-Fairuz Trading & Contracting Company owns about 60 per cent, are rarely traded and were not traded at all between May 1998-April 1999.
