Profile and Background
Gulf Mushroom Products Company (GMPC) was established by Muscat Overseas Company, Trans-Gulf Industrial Investment Company and Renaissance Holdings Company and its associates with the primary objective of growing, processing and packaging button mushrooms.
The public was offered 40 per cent in July-August 1997. The offering was about 19 times oversubscribed.GMPC has set up a farm - the first of its kind in Oman - in Barka with capacity of 3,120 tonnes a year of mushrooms.
Figures for 1999 show the company reported initial sales of RO 104,444 ($271,000). A modest loss was reported and absorbed by reserves. Trading was suspended on 01-01-04.
