Profile and Background
Oman National Electric Company (ONEC) was established in 1978 and is involved in the operation and maintenance of power stations, electromechanical projects and water treatment plants. It employs around 550 people.
It is contracted to operate and maintain all the power stations in Musandam, Dakhiliya, Dhalqut and Rekhyut. It operates and maintains Salalah and Thumrait power stations and maintains the diesel generators at Ibra, Masirah, Zeak and Nizwa power stations - the Nizwa, Bahla and Izki power stations stopped supplying power in the summer of 1996 when the Al-Manah power station, operated by United Power Company, began operating.
In July 1997, ONEC won a three-and-a-half-year contract with Ireland's ESB International to operate and maintain the power station at Rusayl which, at 500 MW, is one of the largest in Oman.
