National Securities Company was floated in July-August 1997, the founders offering 800,000 partly-paid shares, or 40 per cent of equity. It started operations on the MSM on 11 October of that year. Its shares were listed in the middle of October and are now fully paid-up.

For the 16.5 months to 31 December 1998, the company posted a loss of RO 556,473 ($1.4 million) on income of RO 339,032 ($880,603) due to the slump in share prices and activity on the MSM which necessitated provisions of RO 154,463 ($401,203) for current investments and RO 350,000 ($909,090) for the decline in value of long-term investments.

Due to cost-cuts and a write-back of provisions plus other factors, the company reported a profit of RO 147,976 ($384,353) in 1999. All of it was used to reduce held-over losses.
