Profile and Background
Oman Chemical Industries Company (OCI) was established in late 1995 by a group of 24 Omani investors to set up a plant to produce zeolite, one of the main raw materials used in the manufacture of detergents.
It is also used in water treatment and in the petrochemicals and natural gas industries. The company has signed a technical agreement with Italy's Enichem Augusta under which OCI will market its products under the trade name Vagabond-A for eight years with a possible three-year extension.
The company reported sharply higher sales in 1999 as production came fully on stream. An operating loss was reported and a net loss of RO 600,000 ($1.56 million) was booked for the year.
