Profile and Background
Oman Fiber Optics Company, an Omani-US joint venture, was established in Muscat in 1996. The main founding shareholder is Oman & Emirates Investment Holding Company with a 23 per cent stake. Fiber Core and Tech Man International Corporation, both of the US, each have a 12.
5 per cent stake. The state's General Telecommunications Organization (GTO) has a 10 per cent stake and the Majan Special Opportunities Joint Investment Account 2 per cent. The company manufactures fiber optics and fiber optic cables for use in the telecoms industry.
Analysts say there is a large market for such products in the Gulf, where a number of US companies will market the company's products. The total cost of the project is RO 7.7 million ($20 million), of which RO 5.
