Established in 1974, Oman Refreshment Company is one of the oldest companies listed on the MSM. It is engaged in the bottling, canning and distribution of carbonated drinks under license from PepsiCo of the US.

Although sales have increased annually, net profits have come under pressure from competition in recent years and have fluctuated considerably. Net earnings fell about 37 per cent in 1994, rose 10 per cent in 1995 and fell again, by 6 per cent, in 1996.

In 1997, however, a strong performance saw them jump by 85 per cent. Long-term debt obligations were also wiped out. Earnings continued to improve in 1998, with a 19 per cent increase in net profits to RO 879,531 ($2.

3 million) on sales of RO 18.1 million ($47.1 million).
