Shell Oman Marketing Company (SOMC) was established in 1997 with capital of RO 10 million ($26 million), of which 40 per cent, in the form of 4 million shares, was floated in July-August 1998. The shares were listed on the parallel market on 15 November.

SOMC was set up to buy the operations of Shell Marketing (Oman - SMO), a subsidiary of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group, and Oman Lubricants Company (OLC), in which the group has a 55 per cent stake. SOMC is the leader in marketing and distribution of petroleum products.

It owns and operates the only lube blending plant in Oman.
