Qatar Cinema & Film Distribution Company was established as a shareholding company in 1970. Its shareholders are Qatari individuals, banks and companies and since March 2000, the company ha allowed GCC investors to collectively acquire up to 25 percent of the equity.

Qatar Cinema intended to continue to expand its operations in order to keep up the growing demand. During the past year, the company increased the number of movie theatres it operates from four to ten.
