Salam International Investment Institution was established in May 1998 with a capital of $50 million. Twenty percent of the capital was initially paid-up and this sum was later increased to forty percent.

Shares in Salam began trading on the DSM on 14 June 2000. Initial shares sold at $1 a piece.Salam has distinguished itself as the first Qatari company open to foreign investors beyond the GCC countries and for that reason its shares are listed in US dollars.
