Profile and Background
Ash-Sharqiyah Agricultural Development Company (Shadco) was founded in 1986 to develop agricultural schemes in the Eastern Province. The company has reported a loss for most of the 1990s, in part due to the change in the official agricultural support policy.
In 1999, Shadco reported net sales worth SR 44.9 million ($12 million) compared with sales of SR 32 million ($8.5 million) in the previous 12 months. However, the cost of sales was barely lower than this figure.
As a result, the company reported a net loss of SR 2.4 million ($640,000), roughly in line with the figure reported in the previous 12 months.
