Profile and Background
Saudi Telecom Company was until recently the sole provider of telecommunications services in Saudi Arabia, including fixed-line, wireless (including GSM), paging, satellite and Internet services. The privatization of telecommunications services in Saudi Arabia began in 1997, leading to the establishment of STC in 1998 as the administrator and operator of Saudi Arabia's telecommunications facilities.
The initial public offering of STC shares to the Saudi public in October 2002 was sold exclusively to Saudi investors and state-affiliated funds, and totaled 90 million shares, or 30% of STC.
