Saudi Chemical is the first explosives company established in the KSA. On April 22nd 1998, the company was converted from one of limited liability to a joint stock company. SCC later introduced reliable methods for blasting operations in urban and other inhabited areas.

Furthermore, SCC is also authorized to trade in and manufacture of certain military materials and explosives. With such a license at its disposal, the company has focused on diversifying its range of products and services.

In 2000, the company obtained further licensing from the Ministry of Commerce to trade and manufacture specific categories of pharmaceutical products. SCC's acquisition of 99% of Saudi International Trading (SITCO) was completed in December 2000.
