Sharjah Islamic Bank, which was previously known as National Bank of Sharjah, was incorporated in 1975 as a public joint stock company by Emiri Decree issued in Sharjah. The bank provides commercial banking services and operates through its branches in Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Dibba, Khorfakan, Sharjah free zone, Sharjah University and Kalba.

At the extraordinary shareholder's meeting on March 18th 2001, a resolution was passed to transform the bank's activities in a manner that made its banking services fully compliant with Islamic Shari'a principles.

This process was completed on June 30th 2002. As of July 1st 2002, the bank has been operating in accordance with the new set of Shari'a compliant guidelines and regulations. The Bank's capital was raised to AED 1 bn in February 2005 with share prices at AED 2.

5 par value. The Bank's financial statements are audited by KPMG and have been IASB (International Accounting Standards Board) compliant as of 1995.
