- PRESS RELEASE
Marina Mall and the British Embassy jointly celebrated the UAE's 41st Anniversary by organising a flash mob of dancers at Marina Mall on the evening of National Day. This event demonstrated their great support for the UAE. The flash mob was strongly supported by the British community; participants included members of the British business community, British schools and even diplomats and staff from the British Embassy itself.
The music skipped from a local Emirati tune to popular British artists Adele and The Kinks to Arabic and South Asian music.
Members of the public were also swept away in the spirit of celebration and joined in the dance.
The links between the UK and the UAE are very strong and the dance was a creative way of demonstrating the culture and ties that bind the two countries.
It was also a unique way for the large British community in the UAE to thank their Emirati hosts for the warmth and generosity with which the community has been welcomed over the decades.
For Marina Mall, Sunday 2 December was a dedicated UAE National Day, aimed to celebrate the 41st Anniversary. The mall organised a full day programme of cultural activities that included traditional craft making, henna design, falconers, national day photo booth, children's face painting, coffee serving, harbiya dance crew, performers and stilt walkers. Celebrations and activities at Marina Mall will continue until 3 December.
Commenting on the event, HE Dominic Jermey, British Ambassador, said, "What a fantastic event! I'm delighted that the British community has so energetically demonstrated its support for the UAE. This shows the strength of the friendship between our nations. Abu Dhabi, as a modern and dynamic city, is the perfect venue for such an innovative celebration of National Day. Happy UAE National Day!"
