FOSSC-Oman 2013 to begin next week

Targeting ICT professionals, staff, students, and the broader Free & Open Source Software (FOSS) community, the Information Technology Authority (ITA) and the Communication and Information Research Center (CIRC) at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) are jointly organizing the Free and Open Source Software Conference (FOSSC-Oman' 2013), scheduled to be held on 18th and 19th February 2013.

The FOSSC-Oman' 2013 is the first such international conference in support of the National Free and Open source Initiative designed to promote awareness on the use and development of Free and Open Source Software in Oman and the region.

As noted in an earlier release, ITA & Intel Corporation have been working together as co-organizers of the Oman Open Source Challenge. This is a national Open Source business plan competition, which aims to encourage emerging entrepreneurs, university students, and graduates, and reward ideas that have high potential to become a new business. The results of this competition have been tallied and the winners are to be announced during the conference activities.

The ten winning projects will be honored; and the first three will participate in the Intel competition in the Middle East, and if they succeeded they will compete internationally. The winners will get prizes, such as computer equipment, training programs and a lot more to be unveiled in the Conference.
