FOSSC-Oman' 2013 to open opportunities in FOSS

The Free and Open Source Software Conference (FOSSC-Oman' 2013) is jointly organized by the Information Technology Authority (ITA), and the Communication and Information Research Center (CIRC) at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) on 18th and 19th February, 2013, at SQU Conference Hall.

FOSSC-Oman' 2013 will be opened under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications, with the presence of H.E. Dr. Ali bin Saud Al Bimani, Vice Chancellor of SQU, and Dr. Salim Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA.

The FOSSC-Oman' 2013 is the first edition of this event that aims to enhance the opportunities on Open Source for the ICT Industry in Oman, provide an attractive environment for networking FOSS users, and experts; and share mutual experiences and discuss potential implementations of FOSS.

Different presentations and topics will be discussed by the conference speakers, who came from different countries around the world, such as Saudia Arabia, Turkey, UK, Portugal, and Malaysia.

The conference cover areas, such as migration to Open Source, FOSS technology in the school environment, innovation & transformation in Open Source Way, and ITA's role in encouraging FOSS deployment through consultation services.

Besides the conference, there will be an Exhibition and Innovation Hub. The exhibition will showcase the national and international open source solutions and products along with the creativity of the Oman open source challenge participants and the Oman Open Source Students. While, the Innovation Hub will have innovative and creative workshops conducted for the open source users by some international experts.
