Over 500 workers attended the quarterly medical camp on Friday, 14th September 2012 organized by ASTER, Indian Ladies Association and Malabar Gold and Diamonds at the Consulate General of India, Dubai premises, organized with the aim to provide continuous and structured primary health check to the underprivileged Indian workers in the UAE.
The doctors present at the camp included General Practitioners, an ENT specialist, Dermatologist, Orthopedics, Dental from ASTER and an Optometrist.
The camp also provided for counseling to help laborers cope with their psychological problems.
Commenting on the health camp, Dr. Azad Moopen, Chairman of DM Healthcare, said, "We are committed to extend free medical aid to 25,000 people in connection with our Silver Jubilee Year through its CSR activities and we really appreciate the efforts of the committed volunteers of ILA members under the leadership of Mrs. Sangeetha Verma, the CSR partner support from Malabar Gold & Diamonds in extending free medicine to the workers through ASTER pharmacy and the patronage extended by the Honorable Consul General of India in such endeavors."
Sangeetha Verma, president of ILA Dubai, said, "The initiative was their way of giving back to the community. Bur Dubai has so many tailors, dry cleaners, technicians who don't have medical insurance or whose monthly income can't cover their medical expenses."
"Once you do it, you realize the demand is there, the next camp will be held in December." She added.
Shri MP Singh, Consul - Labour Welfare, said, "It was not just a typical medical camp it also had a trained counselor on board since counseling and therapy is expensive. In Dubai, the stress level is quite high, especially for those who left their families back home and working with low salaries. We appreciate the support of ASTER, Malabar Gold and Diamonds and ILA offering medical and professional help to these workers."
