GE to open dynamic positioning simulator in Egypt

The Arab Academy of Science, Technology & Marine Transport (AASTMT), in collaboration with GE Energy Management's Power Conversion business, to open a dynamic positioning (DP) vessel-control simulator in Abu Qir, northern Egypt. The facility is designed to address the demand for trained DP specialists in the Egyptian and Arabian offshore energy industry. The simulator is the centrepiece of AASTMT's fully accredited DP training school. It features GE's DP technology, a ship position-control system that allows a vessel to use its propulsion system, thrusters and rudders to either maintain a stationary position and heading without dropping anchor or make small, exact movements on a precise course.
