- PRESS RELEASE
Ghedex 2013, Oman's leading higher education exhibition, invites students to come and keep up with the latest trends in higher education from 23rd -25th April 2013 at the Oman International Exhibition Centre.
The dominant role of traditional institutions will be challenged by the increasing presence of corporate universities and online institutions.
Reductions in government funding to public higher education will prompt further competition and student attraction strategies, entrepreneurial partnerships and innovative fundraising schemes by traditional institutions in this regard.
There will also be an increase in application of online and mobile technologies by the teaching faculty both in the classroom as well as to facilitate distance learning. Online learning will gain new recognition specifically with the explosion of the MOOC (Massive open online course) movement of learning.
In terms of the learning population interestingly, adult learners will become a significant part of the future of higher education with more adults considering career advancement and developments while student learners will shift towards self directed learning strategies.
A particularly new phenomenon termed new global regionalism will see an explosion of regional educational institutions gaining prominence among students from that region who will now consider traveling within their home region to purse their degrees and post degrees instead of seeking the same abroad, thus shifting student mobility from the West to the East. East Asia, the Gulf States, Latin America, the Middle East and Southern Europe in particular stand to gain much from this upcoming trend.
Organised by OITE Trade Fairs, under the patronage of the Ministry of Higher Education, Ghedex 2013 will take place along Trainex & Jobex 2013- the Training and Omanisation Exhibition and will house reputed accredited colleges and universities from all over the world showcasing the latest programmes, courses, placements and opportunities for Omani and expatriate students.
