GlobalFoundries' Fab 8 facility to be completed by 2013-end

GlobalFoundries, a unit of Abu Dhabi's Advanced Technology Investment Co (Atic) has said its Fab 8 facility in New York is stepping up production to become the most advanced semiconductor fabrication facility in the US, Khaleej Times has reported. Fab 8 will produce semiconductors on node scales including 32, 28 and 20 nanometres, between 450 and 600 times smaller than the width of a human hair and including over two billion nodes on a single fingernail-sized chip. GlobalFoundries expects to reach full capacity of producing 60,000 wafers per month in its New York fabrication plant by the end of March 2014, the company said.
