Governments and renewable energy companies vow to take more action as the 6th World Future Energy Summit concludes in Abu Dhabi

Event organizers Reed Exhibitions also announced that 70% of space has already been rebooked for the seventh edition of WFES in January 2014.

165 speakersled the discussions during the International Renewable Energy Conference in Abu Dhabi (ADIREC), hosted by the World Future Energy Summit, which set the global future energy agenda for the next decade and provided a solutions blueprint for the 120 countries that have already set renewable energy targets.

The link between water and energy was clearly made today when Masdar, host of the World Future Energy Summit, announced an ambitious long-term goal to develop large-scale commercially-viable desalination plants that are fully powered by renewable energy sources by 2020.

Innovation was a key focus of today's ADIREC programme which included sessions on how technology and innovation will shape the future, and the drivers of innovation in future energy technologies. Leading experts sat on panels during parallel sessions on solar energy, wind, geothermal energy, energy storage, innovation and entrepreneurship, sustainable transport and the evolution of hydropower.

While more than 1,000 conference delegates were discussing the need for greater support from governments in terms of policy development, investment and collaboration, thousands more visitors were pouring into the 40,000 square-metregross exhibition space at WFES 2013 to see the latest technologies and solutions in areas such as energy efficiency, solar energy and electric transport.

650 companies from 40 countries showcased their products to an eager audience, including 70 new product launches. Leah Liu, Marketing and Communication Manager from Sun Tech Limited, is delighted with the success of WFES 2013.

"This is our fifth time to participate in WFES and we are keen on continuing to be part of this event. We believe this is an excellent platform for reaching international companies and networking with potential partners or clients. So far we have been able to link with our trade customers from the UAE, India and Europe," said Ms Liu.

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) is another long-time exhibitor at WFES.

"Being part of the oil and gas field makes this event a good platform for ADNOC and its companies to present our perspective and experiences on the issues of sustainability. We are keen on fully applying the international and highest standards to achieve safety and security, using environmentally friendly resources, and we have always been keen on being pioneers of green environmentally friendly initiatives," said Mr Ibrahim Mohamad Al-Marzouqi, Manager, Public Relations for ADNOC.

The Zero Tracer, an enclosed electric motorbike that can reach speeds of around 250 kmph, attracted large numbers of curious visitors, while the Estidama-compliant home in the new Sustainable Living area was the centre of attention for developers, engineers and architects all looking to incorporate the latest in energy efficiency in their projects.
