Hamad Medical Corporation appoints new Chief Of Medical, Academic and Research Affairs

In order to drive forward the transformation of healthcare, education and research at Hamad Medical Corporation, the Managing Director, Dr Hanan Al Kuwari, appoints a new medical chief.

Dr Hanan appoints Professor Michael Richmond as the new Acting Chief of Medical, Academic and Research Affairs.

Professor Richmond joined HMC from his previous role as Medical Director at one of the UK's largest and most successful teaching hospitals, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Trust, where he oversaw the medical staff of a hospital system of over 2000 beds and a medical workforce of 1,300 doctors.

He has successfully led major change programmes and has a long track-record in senior medical management roles such as Clinical Director, Critical Care, Anaesthesia & Operating Services.

He has led major quality and safety initiatives and is an honorary professor and senior lecturer.

In his new role, Professor Richmond will lead HMC's medical workforce and overall medical transformation across HMC.

His focus will include installing high standards of quality, clinical transformations, excellence in performance amongst the medical staff, ensuring coordination of care, and developing local clinical leaders.

Dr Hanan took the opportunity to thank Professor Edward Hillhouse, for taking the role on an interim basis and announced that he will take on an important leadership role in developing the Academic Health System (AHS).

He will continue to assist HMC in moving closer to its AHS strategy and will have responsibility for HMC's overall scientific development strategy.

Dr Hanan said: "This new appointment will further strengthen clinical and academic leadership at HMC and will provide the platform for us to accelerate on our exciting journey to becoming an Academic Health System that provides the highest quality care to our patients and develops a strong and sustainable healthcare workforce."
