Hawkamah revamps structure, kicks off new initiatives

  • United Arab Emirates: Monday, April 29 - 2013 at 01:06

Hawkamah, the DIFC-based Institute for Corporate Governance presented its new CEO Leonardo Peklar to stakeholders on Sunday. Peklar, a lawyer by profession and equipped with 25 years experience in teaching and consulting corporate governance, succeeds longtime chief executive Nick Nadal who leaves the institute to pursue other interests in Dubai. Peklar told AME Info that starting from May 22, Hawkamah (Arabic for governance) will hold regular workshops and monthly forums on CG-topics such as market regulation, transparency, management accountability, Islamic banking supervisory and business culture. Peklar also said the institute will upgrade its website www.hawkamah.org with a new, interactive design and additional menu points. Since the institute was founded in 2005 by former DIFC Authority chief economist Dr. Nasser Saidi, Hawkamah trained over 1,000 directors and CXOs from across the Middle East and North Africa in responsible leadership and on how to avoid conflicts of interests in 'corporate Arabia'. "Corporate governance is a relatively young appearance in the Mena region," said Hawkamah CEO Peklar. "We therefore invite all members and stakeholders to proactively support Hawkamah's long-term mission through feedback and regular contribution."
