  • PRESS RELEASE

Women's weekly Haya Magazine is using its significant reach across the region to educate women about breast cancer during Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October. A special edition of the magazine out this week aims to raise general awareness of the subject as well as offer practical advice about early detection.

Breast cancer kills more than 500,000 women every year.

In the UAE it kills more women than any other form of cancer, according to official statistics, and the disease has slowly tried to shake off social stigma and taboo in many countries across the Middle East region in recent years.

The special issue of Haya features an exclusive celebrity interview with mega star Nancy Ajram, who speaks out about self-screening and preventative steps.

Mirna Bassil Khalife, Editor-in-Chief of Haya said, "Breast cancer has, until recently, been shrouded in social taboo and misconception. Many women leave it until it is too late to seek medical attention for a number of reasons, of which a lack of education and general awareness is one."

"Haya Magazine is delighted to launch this special breast cancer awareness edition. As the region's leading weekly magazine, we are joining the fight against this potentially debilitating cancer to help our readers and give them the vital information they need about early detection, prevention and treatment," she added.

In European countries, the survival rate of women with breast cancer is much higher than in the Middle East. In Saudi Arabia, approximately 70 per cent of breast cancer cases are not referred to a doctor until the cancer is in the later stage, where chance of survival is significantly lower.

The special edition of Haya Magazine, which is distributed throughout the MENA and Levant region, features tips and advice on dealing with the disease, a guide to self-screening and the history of the iconic pink ribbon.

Packed with interviews, celebrity profiles, fashion, beauty and unparalleled photo shoots week after week, Haya Magazine is the ultimate weekly female magazine. Published by MediaQuest, Haya Magazine is one of the highest circulating weeklies in the region.
