HH Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed supports Tobacco Dubai initiative 'IMP'

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, the Dubai Health Authority will hold a workshop to educate healthcare workers on the latest advances in treatment of tobacco addiction.
The aim of the programme is to train healthcare providers including primary healthcare physicians, specialists, medical residents and nurses on the latest advances in treating tobacco addiction, keeping in mind new recommendations based on the latest scientific research.
Specialists in the field including practitioners such as Global Bridges Alliance (an organization that conducts training programmes worldwide to empower healthcare professionals with knowledge on smoking cessation and treatment of tobacco addiction) and King Hussein Cancer Center in Jordan will hold educational lectures as part of this workshop.
The training programme is part of the Tobacco-Free Dubai project, which aims raises public awareness, promote understanding of tobacco control strategies and educate the public and healthcare professionals on how to treat tobacco addiction.
His Excellency Essa Al Maidoor, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority, highlighted the importance of this programme and said, "Disease prevention is one of the priorities of the DHA and an important part of our strategy to ensure a healthy community. Preventative programmes such as this one, are imperative to educate all sections of society. Empowering healthcare professionals with the latest in treatment methods and educating the community on behavioural and lifestyle changes that are beneficial for them, is a two-fold strategy, which we believe is essential to ensure a healthier tomorrow for the members of our community."
Dr. Hanan Obaid, Tobacco-Free Dubai leader and head of community health services programmes, Primary Health Sector at the DHA ,said, "The training programme is part of the Tobacco-Free Dubai initiative, which was launched in May 2009, and includes many several activities and targeted awareness campaigns which will take place across schools, universalities, and public and private sector entities."
