HMC to host fifth pan Arab liver transplant society congress

More than 300 local and international experts will gather in Doha on 17-18 January, 2012 for the 5th Pan Arab Liver Transplant Society Congress, hosted by Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). To be held at the Ritz Carlton Doha, the two-day event brings together experts and leading figures in the liver transplant community to examine advances in the field.

The programme includes reporting sessions by Arab liver transplant programmes, state-of-the-art lectures, organ donation session, round-table discussions, and free oral presentations.

Congress President and Senior Consultant at HMC, Professor Hatem Khalaf, said, It was a great achievement for Doha to be chosen as the venue for the congress and for HMC to host the event. It is through conferences such as this one that we can share our knowledge and experience and work toward our goal of providing the best possible treatment and care for our patients."

He said, "The Qatar Center for Organ for Organ Transplantation had successfully launched its liver transplant programme in 2011. Since then, three successful liver transplants have been performed, with all patients doing well."

"HMC is proud to host this conference as part of our commitment to promoting research and education through supporting scientific societies and organizations such as the Pan Arab Liver Transplant Society (PALTS), The Transplantation Society (TTS) and the International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS)," he added.

The congress's rigorous scientific programme includes panel discussions about liver transplantation in the Arab world, organ donation in Arab countries and special issues in liver transplantation.
