HRH The Prince of Wales, a keen advocate of environmental awareness and sustainable development, toured Doha's Msheireb Enrichment Centre, where he attended a presentation by senior Msheireb Properties executives on the construction progress of Msheireb Downtown Doha.
"It is a great honour to receive HRH The Prince of Wales at the Msheireb Enrichment Centre and welcome his profound interest in the aims of our flagship project," said Al Marri.
"For many years The Prince has been a passionate supporter of efforts to preserve cultural and architectural heritage around the world, for the benefit of present and future generations. As a project inspired by the past and built for tomorrow's generations, the Msheireb Downtown Project represent a blueprint for sustainable urban regeneration for the future.
HRH The Prince of Wales is recognised globally for his concern for the environment and has inspired a number of environmental conservation and awareness initiatives over the last three decades.
A regular visitor to the Gulf, The Prince has also actively promoted warm ties between Qatar and the United Kingdom. Trade between the two countries is expected to double to QR23.7bn (GBP4.4bn) by 2015.
Viewing a detailed model of Msheireb Downtown Doha at the Msheireb Enrichment Centre, a purpose-built community facility devoted to the regeneration of Doha's historical commercial district, Prince Charles was briefed on the many UK consultants attached to the project.
Msheireb Downtown Doha is realising a new architectural language by building the world's first sustainable downtown regeneration project in a modern major city, across a 31 hectare (76 acres) site. The unique mixed-use project utilises age-old principles of design and urban planning to create a pedestrian neighbourhood, minimising congestion and encouraging a community feel distinct to Qatari contemporary culture.
