The World Environment Day (WED) will be celebrated in Qatar for the 7th consecutive year where the events are set to take place between May17th and June 5th.
"The Eco-Fashion Design Contest, generally aims to educate everyone specially the younger crowd the importance of recycling while giving them an outlet for their creativity," explains Dr. Saif Ali Al Hajari, Chairman of FEC.
Each Designing team will include a maximum of three designers and each team will be allowed to present one eco-fashion outfit design. Contestants will be allowed to use only recyclable materials, and can include cardboard, tin, recycled fabric or clothing, aluminum, plastics, paper cartons, chipboard, newspaper, mixed papers (magazines, junk mail and catalogs), paper bags, glass, etc.
All entries will be presented on 17th May 2013 (Friday) 4:00pm at IAID Premises and the selection of the winning designs will be conducted in coordination with Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar (Fashion Department). Designs will be judged based on the overall look, Environmental message, creativity and team effort for producing the outfit. The shortlisted entries would walk the ramp and the final selection of the winners will be done at the Closing and Awarding Ceremony.
The Eco-Fashion Contest is one of the many initiatives organized by IAID and FEC to involve the Qatari community in the WED 2013 celebrations, and to create interest among the people. The wide variety of activities and contests planned for the WED 2013 celebrations will help the citizens become more aware of how they — as individuals — could make a positive impact on the environment.
