IDC has raised its tablet forecast for this year to 122.3 million units, up from its previous projection of 117.1 million and said that by 2016, Windows tablets are expected make up more than 10% of the market. The demand is driven by new Android tablets and Apple's iPad mini. "Android tablets are gaining traction in the market thanks to solid products from Google, Amazon, Samsung, and others. And Apple's November iPad mini launch, along with its surprise refresh of the full-sized iPad, positions the company well for a strong holiday season," said Tom Mainelli, research director, Tablets at IDC. The firm also increased its 2013 forecast number to 172.4 million units, up from 165.9 million units, and by 2016 worldwide shipments should reach 282.7 million units, up from a previous forecast of 261.4 million units.
