IKCO adapts engines for Ethanol

A mutual collaboration between IKCO and Bio-energy Research Center of Tarbiat Modares University, has provided the ability of using ethanol in IKCO cars.

Mehrdad Elyasi, design manager of powertrain and control systems in IKCO R&D center said that in order to comply with environmental standards, IKCO intends to adapt its products to be able to use E5 and E10 bioethanol.

Elyasi stated that periodical tests indicate that current IKCO cars are able to work on E5 ethanol.

IKCO R&D design manager of powertrain and control systems pointed to the advantages of using ethanol and said, "E10 and E5 are fuel mixture of 10 and 5 percent of ethanol and 90 and 95% of gasoline sometimes called gasohol. This fuel increases engine torque, decreases environmental emissions and eliminates MTBE (methyl tert-butyl ether)."

IKCO engines like TU5, EF7 and XUM are able to run on E5 and E10.

In the opening ceremony of national labs for renewable energies in Tarbiat Modares University, IKCO introduced one its Ethanol-powered cars.
