IKCO diesel passenger cars to come soon

In order to add diversification to its products portfolio, IKCO aims to market one thousand diesel cars in the next Iranian calendar year starting on March 21.

Javad Najmeddin, IKCO CEO said that the necessity of diversifying product portfolio as well as diesel cars popularity among customers have motivated IKCO to produce diesel passenger cars.

IKCO diesel engine meets Euro V standard requirements. This 1500cc engine produces 90 Kw of power. Its torque reaches 256 Nm.

Increasing the fuel economy by 30%, decreasing emissions by 40%, higher durability of parts and lower maintenance costs are the advantages of this engine over similar gas-fuelled ones.

IKCO diesel engine sips only 5.2 liters of fuel per 100 Km. It can be used on all C and D segment cars in Iran domestic market.

Referring to the self-sufficiency of the company in production of fuel-efficient engines, Najmeddin said, "Based on a strategic plan, IKCO has managed to achieve the knowledge of design and development of fuel-efficient cars".

Following its strategic plan in powertrain development, IKCO intends to allocate 10% of its products fuel portfolio to different types of fuel efficient diesel engines by 2016.

Currently, diesel Samand is under various tests in IKCO NPD (New Product Development) and Research and Development centers.

IKCO will start pre-production of diesel Samand soon. The company aims to dispatch one thousand units of this car to the markets next year.
IKCO intends to use its self-developed diesel engine on other cars built on Samand platform, such as Soren.

Iran's first national diesel engine for passenger cars was unveiled at Iran Khodro Powertrain Co. (IPCO) on November 17, 2009. This 90Kw diesel engine is considered as one of the most powerful ones in its kind worldwide.
