Reinforcing its growing significance in the regional SME sector, Mr. Hassan Al-Hazeem, Managing Director of Intercoil International, the Dubai-based sleep products manufacturer, presented an overview on the SME sector in the region and the roadmap for cross-border business expansion on the opening day of the 3rd Middle East SME Forum 2012, which was held at the Rocco Forte Hotel in Abu Dhabi from 17-18 of September.

Mr Al-Hazeem emphasised at the beginning of his presentation that the founder of Intercoil, Mr Abbas Ali Al-Hazeem, is his inspiration for business expansion and going cross-borders.

In his address, Mr Al Hazeem spoke on the subject of 'Business Expansion and going Cross Borders' and focused on the business function as also the legislative challenges on cross-border expansion strategies.

He also encapsulated Intercoil's strategy and the need to be innovative, particularly with respect to establishing the sales, marketing and distribution network.

In his speech Mr Al Hazeem said, "'Think Big', I've always believed in this slogan since I started managing the company. If you want to become big, you have to think big. For example, we shouldn't wait until we are a certain size to establish and define systems, policies, and procedures, it's the other way around. Doing so will help us improve, develop, and become bigger."

As a company, Intercoil International has grown from strength to strength - and has consistently grown in their market leadership across the GCC and beyond.

Mr Al Hazeem noted, "Since our inception, we have always looked at the bigger picture - and moved ahead aggressively with our innovative module. Even though we were a small company, our goals were big. But we had immense belief in our business plan. Most importantly, we never let our profitability be the only indicator of our progress."

Mr Al Hazeem was also part of the Panel Discussion on 'Combating with Challenges faced by SMEs in growing their business'. He is also part of the Advisory Council of the Middle East SME Forum 2012, mandated to provide high-quality education on topics impacting the region's SME sector.

The forum brought leaders from all spheres of the business world to discuss the vital role the SME sector plays in the continuous economic development. Presentations, discussions and case studies focus on SME ecosystem in the Middle East environment, challenges and opportunities towards business start-ups and also best practices in the region's SME sector.
