Intesa Sanpaolo plans Mideast expansion

Intesa Sanpaolo, Italy's largest retail lender, has unveiled plans to expand its footprint by entering Qatar and elsewhere in the Middle East, Reuters has reported. "The Middle East is one of the two most strategic regions for the bank," Marcello Sala said. The bank, which already has a strong presence in the Middle East with Dubai as its regional hub, has applied for a licence in Qatar "We opened an office in Abu Dhabi and we are discussing with the Qatari authorities to open a branch there," Sala said.
