Iran launches video-sharing website

Iran's Press TV has announced the launch of a video-sharing website, a move aimed at creating government-sanctioned alternatives to internet powerhouses such as YouTube, the Associated Press has reported. The new site, called Mehr, or affection in Farsi, seeks to promote Iranian and Islamic culture and artists, the report said. Websites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are blocked by Iranian authorities, who claim Western bloggers and governments are waging a "soft war" against the Islamic Republic.
