Iran to pay $157m for medicine, medical equipment imports

The Iranian central bank has said the government has allocated $157m to import medicine and medical equipment since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21), Mehr news has reported. The country's health ministry said although 97% of Iran's required medicine is currently produced domestically, some 50% of necessary raw material for producing the medicine is imported. Last year, around $1.7bn was allocated to import medicine which is not produced inside the country, health ministry official, Hossein Ayati, said.
