Iran replaces CNPC with local firm for South Pars development project

The National Iranian Oil Co (NIOC) has replaced China's National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) with the Khatam ol-Osia Construction Headquarters to develop phase 11 of the country's South Pars (SP) gas field, after the withdrawal of the Chinese firm, Fars news has reported. The South Pars gas field covers an area of 9,700 sq km, 3,700 sq km of which are in Iran's territorial waters in the Gulf. The remaining 6,000 sq km are in neighbouring Qatar's territorial waters.
